Intern Program FAQs

What does a Pilotage Intern do?

Learn - One of the most important attitudes an intern can bring to the Dominican Republic is that of a learner. Interns are given opportunities to learn by participating in Bible studies, guided cross-cultural learning experiences, working alongside the Pilotage Institute staff in research projects and many other ways.

Teach - You will be teaching to local, adult residents and working as a team to design, plan and implement creative activities to enhance the students learning.

Why does Pilotage offer an intern program?

One of Pilotage's main messages is integral stewardship.  This is an opportunity for students to become good stewards of their God given talents, abilities, skills and gifts. It is designed to create a multi-cultural learning experience where living, learning and ministry take place in a 3rd world developing country.

Who should apply?

A person with a heart for international missions and an openness to diverse environments.  The intern must have completed their sophomore year of college and have a level of maturity to work in a small team environment under loose supervision.

What specific work skills do I need?

Each position has a specific set of skills that are unique.  The general skills for all interns include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); internet navigation and research; effective writing and verbal communication skills; ability to follow through with limited supervision and meet deadlines; and basic conversational Spanish.

What are the costs?

There are three basic components of the cost:  Tuition, travel, plus room & board expenses.

Each intern is responsible to cover his/her costs. All non-resident DR staff at Pilotage raise their own funds. We will help all interns facilitate their own support raising.
