About Pilotage International

Our History

In 2000, Charles and Elaine Sanger traveled to the Dominican Republic for the first time.  Their purposed was to teach the principles of stewardship they had been teaching at Willow Creek Community Church and Willow Creek Association churches throughout the United States.

In the years that followed they taught and interviewed hundreds of pastors and leaders in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.  What they found were people with a warm, giving spirit and a hunger to learn, even though many lived in poverty.

In 2004, the Sangers' created Pilotage International to concentrate on the needs in Latin America.  Pilotage International NFP is a non-denominational, faith-based organization with a nonprofit 501(c)3 status in the United States.

In 2007, a project office was opened in La Romana, Dominican Republic to develop the Heart of Macao.  This project was designed to guide and direct the cultural and spiritual development of a village to be developed for the tourism infrastructure workers of the east coast of the Dominican Republic.

In 2008 the office moved to Bavaro and a branch organization, Pilotage República Dominicana, became a recognized nongovernmental organization (NGO) in the Dominican Republic.
